Registrations are now officially open for the 2026 Garmin Fitzroy River Barra Bash, following today's launch of one of Australia's premier catch-and-release barramundi fishing competitions.

Proudly presented by Frenchville Sports Club, the 2026 event will run from 18 to 21 October, welcoming anglers from across Australia to compete for more than $100,000 in cash, prizes and giveaways.

Now entering its ninth year, the Fitzroy River Barra Bash continues to strengthen its reputation as a major sporting and tourism event for Central Queensland, attracting competitors, families and fishing enthusiasts to experience the world-class Fitzroy River fishery and everything the Capricorn Region has to offer.

Frenchville Sports Club CEO Damien Massingham said the continued growth of the event reflects both the quality of the competition and the reputation of the Fitzroy River.

"Each year we see more interest from anglers wanting to experience fishing the Fitzroy River, and that's a credit to our incredible fishery and the support we've received from our sponsors, volunteers and the wider community," Mr Massingham said.

"The Barra Bash is much more than a fishing competition. It delivers significant tourism benefits for our region, supports local businesses and showcases Rockhampton as one of Australia's premier barramundi destinations."

The 2025 event delivered record-breaking results, with competitors landing 764 barramundi, including 273 fish measuring over one metre, along with 111 king threadfin salmon, further cementing the Fitzroy River's reputation as one of Australia's finest barramundi fisheries.

Adding even more excitement this year is the largest boat package ever offered by the Barra Bash. Valued at more than $81,000, one lucky winner will take home a fully rigged 2026 Bar Crusher 535XS, powered by a Yamaha outboard and fitted with premium Garmin electronics.

Mr Massingham said none of the event's success would be possible without the support of its valued partners.

"We're incredibly grateful to our naming rights partners Garmin, along with our major sponsors and the many businesses that continue to support the Barra Bash. Their commitment allows us to continue growing the event and delivering an outstanding experience for competitors every year."

With registrations expected to fill quickly, anglers are encouraged to secure their place as soon as possible!
