The History of the Fitzroy River Barra Bash

The Fitzroy River Barra Bash is proudly hosted by the Frenchville Sports Club, one of Central Queensland’s largest and most esteemed not for profit community organisations. With a legacy spanning 77 years, the Club has a proud history of fostering sporting and recreational activities within the community.

Recognizing the potential of the Fitzroy River's Net Free Zones, the Frenchville Sports Club established the Fitzroy River Barra Bash to boost regional tourism and encourage sustainable fishing practices.

Rockhampton, renowned as the Barramundi capital, is the only city in Australia where you can arrive, settle in, and launch your boat to chase trophy Barramundi and King Threadfin in under an hour.

Now in its 8th consecutive year, the Fitzroy River Barra Bash has become one of Australia’s premier Barramundi competitions, growing larger and more exciting with each passing year. The fishing zone encompasses all tidal reaches of the Fitzroy River Net Free Zone, including The Narrows and Graham Creek.

Since its inception, the competition has attracted anglers from across the nation, awarding generous cash prizes for trophy Barramundi & Threadfin catches and offering hundreds of epic prizes through its valued competition partners.
